Tuichawng is a village comprising about 600 families with a population of about 3240 under Lunglei District of Mizoram, India. Most of the families about 70% are shifting jhum cultivators and about 10% are daily laborer’s. The cultivators can’t produce enough paddy due to want of fertile land and daily laborer’s also don’t get work daily as there’s no any factory and other farms or enterprise. So, about 75% families are below poverty line. They have no financial ability to educate their children in distant places. There’s a government primary school and a government middle school where the children get their elementary stage of education. A huge number of children complete their elementary stage of education every year and 70% of whom are compelled to stop their education due to poorness as there was no high school in the village till 2015. They had to go to either Tlabung sub-division or Lungsen Block to get admitted in high school which are 20 kilo meters far from Tuichawng respectively. To solve their problem, with the help of reputed NGO, Mahabodhi Society, Bangalore, the ultimate truth preaching mission (tutpm) has established the ‘Mahabodhi Residential School’ from the academic school session of 2016. A huge numbers of children get admitted in the school from far and near Chakma villages like 20 to 30 above Chakma villages. They are treated as underprivileged children and taken minimum school fee & hostel monthly fees. The school is trying to give good quality of education to them. As the new school it’s hard to get good result in grade 10 Board Examination which is as follows: 2017 – 16 passed out of 34 2018 – 22 passed out of 30 2019 – 17 passed out of 50 2020 – 14 passed out of 44. Considering the other schools ours result is better and we are trying level best to obtain better result. As most of the students who came out successful in grade 10 Board Exams are belongings to BPL families. They face very big problem in pursuing their further studies unless they get sponsorship from any kind hearted person or any charitable organization. If they get sponsorship, they can pursue their further studies in Aizawl staying in hostel or paying guest run by Chakmas. Now, 2 boys and 2 girls are being sponsored by Mr. CY Han from Malaysia. In last academic session they did good result in Grade 11 promotion examination. They shall be in Grade 12 by next academic session. The Chakma people are like a sapling under a big tree. To develop this community firstly they will need education in different streams like, doctors, engineer, lawyer and in civil service etc. The Chakma students are deprived of all the above educational streams. They do not get facilities from the government to make their career after grade 12. Every year we have meritorious students who used to passed in first and second division in grade 10 & 12 board examination. But unfortunately, Their parents are not able to afford them in continuing their education to make their career and ultimately they had to stopped their education. The Chakma people can’t raise their VOICE on any kind of discrimination as they’re weak in each and every way. They afraid to the Majority people of Mizoram. “A child without education is like a bird without wings” It goes without saying that education is essential for creating quality and eliminating barriers and discrimination on the basis of race, gender and economic status. A nation’s progress and development depends on the availability of this basic civil right of education to all its citizens. The more knowledge we get, we grow and develop more in the life. Being well educated never only means to earn certificates and good salary from the recognized and reputed organisation companies or institutions however it also means to be a good and social person in the life. It helps us to determine whether something is good or bad for us and other persons related to us. The first purpose of getting good education is being good citizen and then being successful in personal and professional life. We are incomplete without a good education because education makes us right thinker and correct decision maker. In such a competitive world, education has become a necessity for human beings after food, clothe and shelter. It is able to provide solutions to all problems; it promotes good habits and awareness about corruption, terrorism, and other social issues among us . Education is the most important tool offers inner and outer strength to a person. Education is the fundamental rights of everyone and capable of bringing any desired change and upliftment in the human mind and society. We too should get proper education by understanding its real value and get benefited completely. Our aim of getting education should be to help other needy people of the society to get them over the weaknesses and superstitions. Education has unbelievable power which keeps us away from evil powers, helps us in making self dependent and provides us new possibilities and opportunities to become a problem solver and excellent decision maker. It keeps our mind calm and peaceful by maintaining the balance among body, mind and soul. Through the key of education one can open his/her difficult lock of the success. Many people do hard work for whole day just to earn some money for getting two times of food in the absence of good education. So, education is must for the “CHAKMA” people to have a better and happy lifestyle.
